I Finally Did It

I bought this...

After much research and deliberation I finally broke down and bought my first "grown-up" camera! For all those who really know me you know that I've been wanting to get one for some time now. After talking with several photographers and reading TONS of reviews I decided on the new Nikon D90 along with the 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens. In addition, I also purchased this...

the nikon 50mm f/1.8d nikkor af lens! It seems that this is THE lens to have! It's super quick and produces awesome shots in low light without the need for a flash! I am super excited about it!! I considered the 50mm f/1.4 but at 2-3 times the cost it wasn't a justified purchase and from the MANY reviews the majority of people said that they would hands down choose the 1.8 over the 1.4 b/c there just isn't that much difference. Now, being a newbie to photography it was all a very confusing process trying to decide on the right camera and lenses but I am confident that I might the right choices for my photographic needs! It should be in my posession sometime on monday! In the meantime I will be reviewing all of my notes on aperture, shutter speeds, etc so that I can get my creative juices flowing!

  7. I will definitely let you all know how I like it! I'm beyond thrilled and am hoping to take some photography classes at the local community college sometime this year. I really want to know what I'm doing.

Jessica, I got it from B&H photo. I found a lot of recommendations for them online.

  8. A great camera is only part of the equation, as I'm sure you know :) Photography classes and lots of practice, trial & error will help, and that lens will be fun fun fun! I have the Canon 50/1.4, used to have the 1.8, love them both! That's the lens I use 80 of the time.

  11. Yay for you sista! I know you are so stoked! I opted for the D300 but the D90 was my runner up choice. It is a great camera for the consumer. You'll have a blast with the classes should you decide to pursue photography more. It's so fun to become a sponge as you are learning. In the end, it is the photographer who takes "THE PICTURE" and not the camera. You will ROCK it! I know you will. CONGRATS friend and enjoy every moment of it!
