"Every child is an artist. The problem is staying an artist when you grow up." Pablo Picasso

Early last week we visited downtown Winston Salem at the Milton Rhodes Center for Visual Arts where Halle's artwork was showcased at a spring art exhibit. It brought back memories of having my own artwork showcased there years ago (when it was the Sawtooth School for Visual Arts) and also where I attended a summer art program on a scholarship. Halle is always bringing home beautiful art pieces and we are so proud of her artistic talent and so proud that one of her pieces was selected for the exhibit. Here she is standing underneath her piece...it's the abstract land piece on the upper right corner :) I saw the quote below a while back and loved it so I created a 5x7 print that pairs perfectly with this image of her. You can download the 5x7 digital print here. Enjoy!! (eta: I stumbled across the above quote and had to add it to this post as well)

Thank you for bearing with me as I make changes to my blog. The new logo should be up later today or tomorrow! I'm also gearing up for a few projects to share here on the blog including a painted furniture post and details of Ella's Brave themed birthday party coming up in a few weeks! I hope everyone is having a great week!!

Simple Display Project for Nursery/Kids Room

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Yesterday afternoon was beautiful so it gave me the perfect chance to get outside to whip up this super simple project for the girls' new room. I found the framed fruit bowl print buried in the back of my closet, where it's been for nearly 4 years since we moved into this house. I simply tore apart the paper backing and removed all the staples and then removed the print, mat, and glass. Then I took it outside along with a wall hook that I picked up for $2 at Hobby Lobby.

A can of dove white spray paint (@ $3) was all that was needed to transform these items into a cohesive art piece for the wall. I gave it about 2-3 coats, allowing it to dry between sprays. Once dry I removed the D-rings that were already on the back of the frame and screwed them into a vertical arrangement instead of the horizontal position they came in. I forgot to take a photo of this step but it was super easy. Just measure and mark and then screw into their new places.

Then I just marked the wall where I wanted the frame to hang and hammered in a few nails. Do the same with the wall hook...be sure to paint your screw heads white as well so they don't stand out. Hang a cute infant sweater, gown, dress, etc. This was my pink sweater from when I was an infant. Cute, huh?! This was so easy to do, only cost a few dollars and it looks great in any kid space! Try it! I'm working on finishing a few more things and then I'll reveal the entire room re-do! Happy Wednesday!
